Simon, an 11-year–old boy, is playing with a ball. The ball goes into the street, and Simon runs for the ball. A car hits him.
The doctors tell Simon’s parents, “Simon is in danger, now. Maybe he will wake up tomorrow. Maybe he will wake up next week. Or maybe he will never wake up.”
Every day Simon’s father says: “wake up, Simon, wake up and come home. Come home and play with Eddie.”
Eddie is Simon’s dog. When Simon’s father says: “Eddie”, Simon moves his arm! “Eddie!” Simon’s father says
again, again Simon moves his arm.
Simon’s parents have an idea. The next day they bring Eddie to the hospital. When they put the dog on Simon’s bed, Simon opens his eyes!
Simon’s parents bring Eddie to the hospital every day. One day, Eddie jumps on Simon’s bed and scratches Simon’s arm. Simon says his first words, “bad dog!”
After two months, Simon is well. He leaves the hospital and goes home . Eddie goes home with him.
